What is viscoelastica (memory foam)?
Viscoelastic foam is a next-generation, totally synthetic, with innovative and unique properties as to alleviate or eliminate the pressure of the body.
About the 90's was when it began its expansion in the rest ambit, starting in hospitals and therapeutic centers thanks to its excellent properties to relieve pressure, and its outstanding health and safety conditions.
Types of vicoelastic
The name is associated with a memory foam type, but this is onlyt a generic term to name the materials presented with various origins and characteristics.
Depending on the type of foaming which is subject to the initial mixture, we can distinguish between open cell viscoelastic memory foam or molded memory foam.
Open cell memory foam or open-pore, is made by pouring the mixture into a product where the foaming base grows freely forming a block which is then cut into strips.
Molded memory foam is produced by injecting the mixture into a mold, which the foam increases in volume until is adapted to the walls of the container .
The basic difference between the two processes of foaming, is that in the first, the pore size or cell obtained is higher and therefore also the air circulation and ventilation through, while molded memory foam, having a pore size minor and virtually sealed surface (effect of mold), sweats worse, but at the same time, it recovers more slowly. The "viscoelastic" feeling is greater than in the open pore.
Another important aspect of the viscoelastic, either open cell or molded, is the kind of additives that are incorporated into the initial mixture or during the process. Depending on the additives we can distinguish differences between oleic, produced with mineral oils, or aqueous form with water solutions.
Basically, the aqueous viscoelastic tend to have lower density and a faster adaptation and recovery effect. By contrast, the viscoelastic produced from oils have higher density and longer adaptation and recovery effects.
Dimaflex employs two types of memory foam for the manufacture of its mattresses. We employ oleic viscoelastic from natural soybean oil (non-transgenic), which successfully eliminated the risk of the volatile components of the viscoelastic from mineral oils, and attach to our memory foam a new aroma and completely different textures.
Thermo-adaptable and pressure sensitive material
The memory foam used in the manufacture of rest systems is thermo-adaptable. In fact this is one of its most important features.
Our body gives off heat in continuous self-regulatory mechanism of our temperature.
When we say that memory foam is a heat sensitive material are defining their actuation mechanism. Our body heat is transmitted to the memory foam (mattress or pillow) and this, as a result of rising temperatures, fits to the millimeter to our contour.
On the other hand, it is a material that adapts to the pressure exerted on it. When we lay down on memory foam mattress, this will adapt to our contour as a result of our body temperature and pressure. Depending on the thickness of memory foam, this acture up to deformation, at which point, the pressure on this point will be distributed evenly across the surface of the mattress.
