The size of our rest system.

Currently the size of things has been of vital importance. First, we reduce to the minimum size, as with mobile phones. We intend to be full of applications, but always in a small space and weight to carry it and use it easily. Something similar can happen with cars. These must be compact to be agile and to facilitate, for example, parking in a big city.

Moreover, if we speak of a TV, surely we like big screen, the largest possible depending on where you're going to locate it.

But, what should be the right size for our bed?.

Let's do an analysis of the phases that we go through our lives.

When we are born, we slept in a crib. This crib has measures of 80x130 cm, 60x120 cm or 70x140 cm. If you think about it, a newborn has a rest area of 70 cm wide on average. As we grow and pass through the adolescence, we will sleep in a bed 90, 100 or 105 cm wide and 190 or 200 cm long.

But what happens when we go to sleep with a partner? As standard, a double bed has a width of 135 cm. This means that when more space we need for our constitution and weight, less we have in our bed. A bed of 135 cm means that each of the sleepers of the couple are 67.5 cm wide, ie even less than when we slept in the crib!

Clearly it is difficult to have much space in small flats of today. But is also clear how important is the rest system size and its composition or material.

Whenever we can, a double bed should have a width not less than 150 cm (mean 75 cm for each sleeper). In this way our personal rest space would allow us to rest comfortably and perform movements and turns without difficulty. The ideal measurement would be from the 150 cm wide, ie 160, 180 or 200 cms wide (twice the measure we use in adolescence).

With regard to long, this should be a minimum of 10 cm more than your height, to accommodate the feet and arms easily.

For many years the standard length of the beds in Spain has been 180 cm. But today, thanks to a change of mind on rest and a change on the physical constitution, this has expanded to 190, 200 and even 210 cms long.

Therefore, our recommendation is try to find a solution to accommodate a rest system with the maximum dimensions adapted to our room.
